Faith, Family, and Country-Club | Fred Layman |General Manager, The Windermere Club

 Introduction

In the fast-paced world of the 21st century, finding a balance between professional responsibilities and personal commitments can be quite challenging. This holds especially true for those who hold demanding positions, while also managing a large family and maintaining their faith. In this and follow up articles, I will explore the unique experiences and challenges faced as the GM of Country Club and Father of six.

Life is a balancing act, and few people understand this better than a general manager of a country club with six children. From managing the intricacies of a prestigious establishment to ensuring your children are happy and thriving, it's no small feat. Add faith into the mix, and you've got a whirlwind of responsibilities and adventures that make for a truly remarkable life story. So, let's dive into the exciting world of, me, a general manager and father of six as I navigate the unique challenges of balancing faith, family, and the country-club!

1. The Morning Hustle: A Symphony of Chaos:
Picture this: you wake up to the sound of iPhone alarms and a chorus of "good morning" from your little one’s ages 7-13, praying not to wake mommy and our three- and one-year olds. The mornings are a melodic blend of breakfast preparations, clothing, and breath checks, and ensuring everyone is on schedule. But amidst the chaos, you find solace in your faith, taking a moment to center yourself and your children with prayer before the day unfolds.

2. The Country Club Chronicles: From Golf Greens to Member Dreams:
As a general manager, I’m responsible for the smooth operation of a multi amenity facility. From managing staff to organizing events, every day is a whirlwind of activity. But this unique role also offers incredible opportunities. Picture yourself overseeing a glamorous gala, welcoming prestigious guests, and making sure the golf greens and course are impeccable. It's a delicate balance of professionalism, charm, and a dash of pizzazz! Who thought just a few years ago that a 5 Star Google Review would make your day and build moral in your team.  Competing for these 5-Star Reviews is a daily acumen.

Managing a large family while simultaneously overseeing a country club can be an intricate balancing act. With six children, I must find ways to nurture and support my family while dedicating substantial time and energy to my professional obligations. Open communication, quality time, and a strong support system become vital components in ensuring a harmonious family life.

3. The Art of Parenting: Six Little Miracles:
Being a father of six, thirteen and under children is like running a circus—each child with their unique personality and talents. From soothing a crying baby to pitching baseballs to a developing college prospect, my days are filled with endless love, laughter, and the more than occasional, chaos. I must be the ultimate multitasker, going from tea parties to baseball games with unwavering enthusiasm. Bedtime stories and goodnight kisses are the highlights of my day, reminding me of the joy of fatherhood and power and grace of our Lord.

4. The Power of Faith: Anchoring the Storms:
In the midst of a busy life, faith plays a vital role in my/our journey. It serves as a guiding light, grounding me during challenging times. Whether it's attending religious services as a family or finding quiet moments for personal reflection, my faith keeps me connected to something greater. It teaches my children important values and provides a source of strength when the world feels overwhelming. For me faith plays an essential role in providing guidance, strength, and moral compass in all aspects of life. As a General Manager of a country club, upholding one's faith becomes even more crucial. With the pressures and demands of managing a diverse staff and the club's amenities, relying on personal beliefs and values helps maintain integrity, fairness, and empathy in decision-making processes.

5. Quality Time: The Glue That Binds:
Balancing work and family is undoubtedly a challenge, but I’m determined to make memories that last a lifetime. Family vacations, weekend outings to the park, and impromptu dance parties in the living room are my secret weapons. These moments of togetherness allow us to bond, laugh, and create a strong foundation for our children. After all, the country club can wait, but your children's childhood won't.

Conclusion:
Life as a general manager and father of six is an exhilarating adventure that requires the utmost dedication, love, and a touch of humor. Balancing faith, family, and the country club takes skill and finesse, but the rewards are immeasurable. From witnessing your children's milestones to the satisfaction of a successful event at the club, I’m living a life that's both fulfilling and inspiring. So, embrace the chaos, savor the quiet moments, and remember that in the grand tapestry of life, I wouldn’t want it any other way!
