The Windermere Club - Course Information | Fred Layman

The most unique aspect of this course, and most others designed by Pete Dye, is Pete's design philosophy, which dictates designing, in each 18, as many unique or "memorable" holes as possible. Windermere has 13 truly "memorable" holes; most good golf courses have 2-5 such holes and no two holes of the Windermere course are remotely alike. This creates 18 totally different golfing experiences in one golf course.

One of the Dye design objectives is to make the golfer think carefully about each shot, consider each risk/ reward opportunity, and thus, use every club in the bag. There are at least five distinct tee positions on each hole, and in some cases, six. Thanks to Alice Dye, Pete's supportive wife and accomplished lady golfer, there are two carefully selected tee positions for the ladies.

With only one forced carry and no severe doglegs, Windermere has some allowances for the average golfer. Yet, an 18-hole round will test the course management skills of even the lowest handicapper. Along the route, you'll wind your way across vast fairways that are bordered by hardwood forest, dotted with several lakes and ponds, and characterized by constant, subtle elevation changes.

You'll also have the opportunity to hit a few balls before your round, as our driving range is on the right side of our No.1 tee, with a chipping green to the left. There are also several practice greens outside the clubhouse. If you arrive early, you'll have the opportunity to simulate many of the shots you'll be attempting during your round.

We are thrilled to inform you that your upcoming round of golf at Windermere is going to be an experience of a lifetime! Contact the General Manager, Fred Layman at (803) 514-6579 for more information and gear up for an exciting day on the greens.
